Game 119 Preview

Adam "Who the F#$% Is This Guy" Bernero, R, 0-1, 10.57 ERA for the KC Royals

Jose "The Count" Contreras, R, 11-4, 3.53 ERA for the Chicago White Sox

Actually Bernero has 5 starts in his career against the White Sox. Where was I?
Let's all thank God, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Confucious, Satan, L. Ron Hubbard, dung beetles, the Great Spirit in the Sky, a one-legged hooker named Hope -- whomever the deity of your choice is -- that the Count is on the mound today so if there's a carryover of yesterday's sleepwalk, at least there'll be some decent pitching until the offense awakes .

My Pick to Click...I'm gonna see how BA's hot stick works for me. (Eeeewww. The fog on my monitor is playing havoc with my descriptive abilities.)

Post those picks to click in the comment section, readers.

Nice recap Pander.

I can't say I didn't feel this coming, but I still hoped that I was being unduly pessimistic. Damnit! The Sox need to take the next two, otherwise I'll go crazy.

They're still technically on pace to meet my goal of a 6-1 record while I was gone, but it did just get a whole lot harder.

My PtC is JD

I'll take Konerko. Not out of the woods yet, Sox fans!

Thome is my pick.

I'm really digging seeing BA's confidence rise as he gets to play more consistently. Don't go benching him now, Oz....

Riske was very sharp too.

If there ever was a game where the "fix" was on - it would have been yesterday's with more than a few suspicious occurences. Not that I even remotely think it was or ever is in baseball - but shades of the Black Sox couldn't help but cross my mind when I saw the way that game was evolving....

Fix on the part of the White Sox?

Explain, and please cite examples.

The Nats just put Alphonso Soriano on waivers. Not that he'll get to the Sox, but wouldn't he look good for the final 40 games of the season and playoffs in left field?

Andruw Jones didn't make it, so I don't think Soriano will either.

....didn't Guch getting thrown out by ALOT and Dye dropping a ball that was VERY catchable and Javy being
ALLOWED to self-destruct AGAIN in the 6th and the center-cut pitches some of our guys took like DYE and PODS and the pathetic at-bats we had in the 9th where we were "blown away" by very hittable 90 mph pitches and just the overall listless effort strike you as odd when we are otherwise playing very good ball and having much more quality at-bats. The dichotomy just made me think of it(a fix), that's all. As you may have noted - I did state "not that I even remotely think it was..."
Just a very "out of recent character" game that I found no explanation for.

Yeah, I had all those plays in mind too when you mentioned it.
Isn't it awful that a scandal from 87 years ago can still haunt the present day team?
Maybe Oliver Stone should look into last night's game! :-)

I'm still waiting for Ollie Stone to incorporate his "single plane theory" into his new World Trade Center movie.

I'm going with Gooch. I just hope he doesn't get pegged at the plate again.

Unfortunately for Jeeves, since he's currently imbibing warm beer and eating mashers, he probably won't be able to change his non-starting PtC, JD.

I, however, am afforded the opportunity since BA is out of the starting lineup and it's still an hour and 25 minutes until first pitch.

My new PtC...Mack. Yeah, so I took the CF anyways, I'm feeling the karma of that position.

(By the way, jeeves can have JD's replacement, Gload, if he can't get a pick in on time.)

I was wondering when we;d see a true Sunday lineup.

So Gload it is, for me!

I'm expecting Paulie to rectify his sloppy play yesterday by bumping his average up to .305 with a 2/3 game with a walk, a homer, and a 2RBI single. To center.

I love being over-specific. Sure, I'm probably going to be wrong, but if I'm right, I'll look like goddamn nostradamus.

By the way, on the game tracker on Yahoo, it says that Mark Buehrle is the slated pitcher. Gwuuhhhh?

damzors. Well then I'll spring for Joey. Crede, not Cora, although Cora winning a PtC would be a welcome surprise.

On another note: Mack is starting in CF instead of Brian?!?!??!?! You know the simpsons halloween spoof of the Shining where Homer says "Urge to kill...rising..."? I'm feeling that. START BRIAN ANDERSON!

....the strangeness continues as we trail KC 7-0 with our #1 on the mound and their over 10.0 era guy on the mound for them.

Hey Jeeves - is your true identity an English butler ?!?

There was something in the smoke the other night, I'm sure of it.
Damn it. Get Ollie on it now.
I blame Tigger fans.
