Game 116 Preview

Zach Miner 7-2, 4.05 for the Motor City Kitties

Freddy Garcia 10-7, 4.83 for the Sox

Freddy looked better last time out. Slow, still, but better. If we get a decent outing from him, we can sweep this series and put some serious fear into the Tigers. A sweep would be a huge boost of momentum and it would put the Sox in great position for the playoffs.

Let's go Sox!

My Pick to click is Uribe
James picked AJ
Fornelli picked JD

Readers, y'all can picks to click as well, just post it as a comment!

For the first time in about a month, I just feel good about this team.

The swagger is back, in the team and myself.

I think we sweep em today, and take 2 of 3 from em at Comerica next week.

I couldn't agree more. This is the first time since after the all-star break that I have begun to expect the Sox to win, rather than hope.
I would love to see a 5-0, 5-1 win today; something dominating.

I thought I should let everyone know...
I'm off to England for a week. With the madness over there, I'm not going to be able to bring my computer. There just isn't enough room in my check-in bag. So I'm hoping James and DickDaStick can keep the site up and running while I'm gone.
If you guys can't, it's totally okay. And if you can, well, hot daaawg!

It would be nice to come home and see that the Sox went 7-0, but I won't be greedy, and my goal for them is to go 6-1

With Tadahito Iguchi, almost every time he sees a pitcher, it's for the first time. It's like facing a rookie every time out, he's used to seeing new stuff and responding with some thump. And now, facing a true rookie, he'll just keep moving on in stride, being the game's PtC.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that he'd been looking good behind the plate for a couple weeks now, either. I'd really like to see him crank 20 homers this year, it'll be a little bit of work, but he can do it, and two today wouldn't hurt.

Hey pander, Gooch's not in the starting lineup, so if you see this you may wanna change that PtC.

Just here to help.

And one more thing, pander, welcome to the team! (Just noticed that.)

Yeah, thanks :)

And with Tadahito not in, my pick will AUTOMATICALLY swap to the person who replaced him. Noting that this is Alex Cintron, who just hit a triple and scored, and it appears I'm in pretty good shape! Heh.

And man...we could be up 3-0 pretty easily if Miner wasn't bailed out by ridiculous defense...that Guillen throw would have made Derek Jeter's knees wobbly in fear. But, Miner's still thrown a lot of pitchers, and the sooner we got to the creamy nougat center of the Tiger's bullpen, the better.

DJ: Miner's thrown a lot of pitches so far. And so has Freddy. The difference is, Freddy is used to throwing 100, 120 pitches per game.

Unspoken reality: It's not very hard to throw an 88mph heater for 120 pitches compared to Miner's 93mph sinker. And do you really WANT predictable sliders and slow fastballs for 5 innings of 120 pitch ball? If I were the opposing team and I had a fortune teller tell me "The other team's pitcher will throw 120 pitches over 5 IP" I'd take it every time, no questions asked.

But hey, he actually had a 90mph fastball in the 2nd, AND it was thrown for a strike at the knees on the outside corner! Lucky for him Granderson was foolish enough to hack at a 3-1 pitch in on his fists. He doesn't swing there, and they got two on, one out.

Pander, you lucky son-of-a...
Nice pick by default!

By the way, kudos to the Sox hitters for being very patient with Miner.

Why is there a Buehrle Bile File, but no Garcia God-I-Want-to-Hold-Him-Underwater-Until-No-More-Bubbles-Emerge File?
