Detroit Tiggers, You Ain't Nobdy: Game 116 Thoughts

Sox Finish the Sweep: 7-3!!!

-Oh, happy days are here again! I haven't been this excited about White Sox baseball since April. With today's win the Sox are now just 5.5 games outta first, and no matter what any other team does they'll remain on top of the Wild Card race.

-Freddy Garcia seemed primed to have a bad day after another double play wasn't turned in the first. He looked very hitable the first 4 or 5 innings but grinded it out. The 6th and 7th innings he was downright dirty to the Tiggers. I can live with 3 earned in 7 innings from Freddy.

-The Sox bats initially did a nice job with Miner, being patient and working the count. Two walks in the 2nd led to 3 total runs that inning. They had a sac-fly and sac-bunt that both helped score runs.

-Kudos to the non-3-4-5-6-7 hitters. Five hits and 5 rbis! (JD did have a huge late-inning HR!)

-One smart Tigger move: Carlos Guillen grabbed Ivan Rodrigez before he could tear out the homeplate umpire's throat for calling him out on a nasty MacDougal curveball.

-Bad Ozzie Move: The CS (caught stealing) is killing us. Two more today against Ivan have put us below a 66% success rate.

-Good Ozzie Move(s): Alex Cintron! Pablo, the pinch-hitting pixie! I'm gonna give him credit for staying with and then pulling Freddy at the right time. And if it weren't for Uribe getting in BA's way in the 9th, Thornton was primed for the save. Jenks was typically terrifying to opposing hitters.

-I just wanna say that Kenny Williams' under-the-radar trade for Mike MacDougal is looking to be a steal. Between him and Thornton, it's been a banner year for acquiring relief pitchers. Had we MacDougal since spring training, sans Politte, we aren't talking about 5.5 games out of first.

-Big Ups to the bullpen again. That's gettting to be a happily redundant statement. Pablo! (By the way, the White Sox lead the AL in pinch hitting.) BA is getting better.

-And my White Sox Player of the Game is Pander's default Pick to Click...

Alex 'Absolut-ely Awesome' Cintron (5)...2-4, 3 rbis including a clutch, 2 out bases clearing double and a first inning triple.

White Sox Record: 70-46!

Great blog - However, if or when we sweep the Royals it will be a 1 1/2 game deficit. It is a 4 game series.

Do you think we can convince Freddy that it's the 5th inning when he starts a game? Innings 1-4 he tortures the hell out of you, than when he gets to the fifth he shuts teams down. He's the Anti Vazquez.

Also, the sweep is nice, but we're still 5.5 games back. Don't get too overconfident, cuz we've beaten the Tigers all year, and they have 47 games left....40 being against teams not named the White Sox. So while we're back in it we haven't done shit yet.

I say it's ours by the time Detroit comes back to Chicago though...if we take 3 of 4 from them in Detroit, Tiger fans begin leaping from buildings....and not just cuz they realized they live in Detroit this time.
