This Team Deserves to Be in the Playoffs: Game 136 Thoughts

Sox suck it up and lose 3-7

-Now when I say this team, I don't mean the Sox. The Sox and Twins right now, and to an extent the Tigers just don't want to take hold of the playoff race. We all thought that the team to win the Central would be the team that would get super hot down the stretch, but it seems far from that now. I say we send the Royals to the playoffs instead! After just missing the sweep against the Twins, they took 2 out 3 from us as well. If you watched these last three games (which was very hard to do, I will admit), you would think the Royals were the team fighting for a playoff spot.

-Anyway, so to the game...

-The Sox jumped out to an early lead in the second on a Paul Konerko solo shot, and then did didly until a two-run homer in the eighth by Thome. Actually, they threatened in the third. Ozuna hit a two-out triple, and the Sox eventually loaded the bases, but failed to score. Other than that the offense was pretty non-existent.

-Freddy didn't pitch well, but it wasn't awful; keyword being awful. He gave up 5 runs over 7 innings. The should Sox be able to score more than 5 runs against the Royals, but I guess with the All-Star, Mark Redman, pitching that would be too much to ask. Cotts came on and promptly allowed an inherited runner to score, and left two men on for McCarthy to sort out. BMac nearly got out of the jam. He jammed Bako, but the ball was hit incredibly slow and he reached base.

-I'm so disgusted with this team. Against the Satanic Flat-Fish and the Royales with Cheese, we went 3-3. 3-3, how ridiculous is that? I think Freddy Garcia has affected this whole team's mentality. The D-Rays and Royals aren't good teams, so they're not big games, and apparently our team only plays well in big games. (And sometimes we don't)

-I know, two game ago I wanted to look at things positively, but with this loss the Sox are seriosuly testing my optimism. We have a very winnable 3 games coming up against Boston. We should be favored in each game, at least when looking at the pitching matchups regardless of whether or not the BoSox get back Manny or Papi. So I won't become a pessimist until after that series. Looking on the bright side the Twins lost, so we're still leading.

Onto the awards...

Bad Ozzie Move of the Day - Calling for Neal Cotts in a winnable game. The Sox finally scored some runs and were only down one, and then Cotts proceeded to give those runs back.

Good Ozzie Move of the Day - Starting Ozuna and Anderson.

Play of the Game - Thome strikes out with the bases loaded in third. If he gets a hit, the Sox have a nice lead and a lot of momentum.

Big Ups of the Night to Thome and Paulie for homering and to Pablo for his multi-hit game.

Sox Player of the Night

Pass.

Sox Record: 79-57...and miraculously still half a game up on the Twinkies
