Game 84 Preview

Daniel Cabrera 4-5, 5.13 for the O's

vs.

Jon Garland 7-3, 5.60 for the ChiSox

It would be huge for the Sox if they could get a solid, not even a great, just a solid performance from Jon.
This is game 3 in the Sox 4 game set with O's. They need to win the next two if they want to continue their series winning streak.

New PtC rule. You can't pick a pitcher.
What d'you guys think of picking the same person? We're up to five pickers, so if that number continues to grow, maybe we should TRY to avoid it, but allow it.

My PtC today is JD.

And welcome to The Count and P-Town! Glad to have y'all aboard.

The Count told me he subscribed to my blog feed, which I believe e-mails him when I post, so the link is on the sidebar if you want the same thing.

I'm really glad the Sox didn't hit a three game slide. I'm always worried those will turn into long streaks. Yes, we picked up a game on the Tiggers.

I'm sticking with Juan for my PTC

I say, no player can have more than one PtC. If you miss out, tough cookies. Hopefully it will encourage people to post their picks earlier. (Note, I was really pissed when Joe got hit yesterday, because I knew it would ruin my PtC. I am lame.)

I'm going with AJP for my pick to click today, since he's got this one more chance to impress the world and get them to punch him. Hopefully there's another bizarre play in there somewhere.

I agree with the card laid, card played rule; am flexible on the multiple picks of the same guy rule; and vote a hearty NO to any future references to the Miller Brewing Company's inane advertising campaign.

if we start getting more than 9 people picking, then maybe we can allow pitchers as PtC, but until then, I say no

my pick to click tonight: scotty pods...he too has been better lately

Hey jeeves...with the all-star break coming up, maybe we should take the suggestion about a mid-season recap/player grades and try it.

If you want, we can split the team in half and go from there or we can each take the whole team and have two differnt sets of opinions for everyone to conversate about or (run-on sentences rule!!!) we can divide the team into pitchers and position players.

The all-star break should give us plenty of time to think about our guys and give them very objective grades instead of knee-jerk reactions to names. We can also include players who've been sent down (Logan, Montero) and players who were supposed to be here (Hermanson) -- anyone who is part of the team.

If anyone would like to be a part of this, feel free to speak up...maybe dickdastick since he's part of the site.

Wadda up guys think?

Okay, I gotta put in my choice for player of the game right away, so Jeeves can hear this before he puts up the recap...

a lot of people may say bobby jenks, and he did a nice job of not wilting under the pressure, but I have a nother person in mind

some people may say jon garland, and it would be a good choice as he held the O's to 1 run thru 7.1, but it's the o's and they have a way of being awful so a ood performance wasn't that surprising and I have someone else in mind

so who do I have in mind?

Matt Thorton, that's who!

I know, I know...he only pitched 0.1 of and inning, but consider the situation: men on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, the starter coming out -- a starter who has given up many runs after leaving a game cuz the RP's have allowed inherited runners to score.

Thorton induced a non-run-scoring grounder to Crede, and really the pressure was off. When Bobby came in the game, you kinda knew it wsa over. Thorton didn't allow a sac fly or a rbi grounder, nothing hurtful whatsoever, and any pressure immensely diminished for Jenks cuz he could allow a fly ball or a grounder and no run would score.

Well, that's my opinion. I know he faced one hitter but it was a huge huge out.

Looks like maybe Jeeves was right with his pick to click, given that JD was 2 for 2, with a single, double, and 2 walks ... and no LOBs. And a run scored. Interestingly enough, he had the only extra base hit compared to 5 for the O's.

I missed the game entirely (Young Frankenstein was showing in the park near my place) but I think James' choice of a PotG sounds as good as any. But Garland getting into the 8th with only 1 run against ... that's pretty special for our Jon. Put us in a position to win the series. Up to Javy now.

Looks like some decent sized "ups" are in order for AJ, with his throw out of Patterson and his RBI single in the 1st. And how about Mack for his second bases loaded BB in as many days! Too many LOBs for each guy, though.
