Calling in the Cavalry

Reinforcements have been called up from the minors to take the place of Charlie Haeger, who was optioned down last night. Agustin Montero will join the bullpen, probably to fill McCarthy's spot as he readies himself to fill in for Jose Contreras. Montero is 28 and has bounced around the minor leagues with three different organizations. Some of you may have heard of Montero before, he was the third player to be busted for steroids after the Steroid policy was instituted. He has a fastball in the low 90's and a good slider. He has been really good at AAA Charlotte. He has a .73 ERA in 24.2 innings. Now will he be able to post those numbers in the bigs? I doubt it, but I'm willing to give him a shot. Hopefully we open up a huge lead one game and he can do some mop up work in a low pressure situation.

The one positive about Jose getting hurt is we get to see pitchers audition for the bullpen, because we obviously need some help in that area.

If Montero bombs out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sean Tracey get the call up. I doubt we'll see Lance Broadway until much later in the season, if at all.
